About the artist
Alexei Izmaylov's practice ping pongs between image making and sculpture. His work is composed from original objects and procured industrial elements that evolve as part of a propositional ecosystem — threading together notions of play, power, consumption and queer desire.
Izmaylov’s imagery and sculptures dive into the role of agency in the present, manifesting as playful spatial interventions imbued with longing, absurdity, and a sense of bewildered consciousness. Underpinning this work is a profound desire for transformation and an openness to the infinite possibilities of reinvention. In a new dimension of Izmaylov’s practice, remnants of the past are reimagined, giving rise to a queer mode of performance that questions and disrupts structures shaping identity and collective memory.
“I make art in order to find out how I think about this world” Alexei Izmaylov
